At this point, he is not projecting denial, as he was with similar comments earlier. While the number of dead means little to him per se, trump is acutely aware of how his poll numbers are being affected. While the fact that some places have had to resort to renting U-Haul trucks to transport the dead doesn’t strike him with horrified grief, he is very unhappy with how his chances of taking the White House again look.
This isn’t denial. But he appears to be thinking that the virus will go away without a vaccine. He cannot provide a vaccine, can’t buy one, and can’t order one, and every time he lies about timing, people correct him … so a vaccine has to become less significant.
The only explanation is that he’s thinking herd immunity, just letting it wash over us all from shore to shore in waves of anguish he won’t partake of. We are at over “60,000” deaths, a number many experts believe is off by half or more.
How accurate is the US coronavirus death count? Some experts say it’s off by ‘tens of thousands’
Coronavirus: U.S. Toll Passes 57,000; Global Cases Eclipse 3 Million – Update
“The U.S. now has more cases overall than the next six most-infected countries — Spain, Italy, German France, the UK and Turkey — the only other countries to have more than 100,000 cases. (Russia should eclipse that mark sometime this week.)”
But trump feels this is unfair. He wants to rev up his economic drive to reelection. Frontline health workers have become the voices of authority, so they trigger suspicions among the Right. He’s been listening to Fox say, COVID-19 is not that bad. Fox found two doctors, repudiated by all other doctors, to fit their storyline, although even YouTube, slack at best, has pulled this pair for spreading dangerous misinformation.
trump and Republicons have devastated us, so it’s time to outrage and distract us at the same time they exponentially double-down on death.
Plus, when trump says something, it becomes “true,” so he might be acting on a bit of superstition, or a bit of fatality where he’s fated to be fortunate.
It’s not going to work. At least, not without stunning numbers of Americans dying under his fake leadership, and because of the disastrous effects of Republicon influence in our politics .
