"Hey so it turns out that the people of earth accidentally did a global experiment to see if every individual could course correct climate change through mass personal change of habits, and it turns out, no! We can't! It was massive corporate activity all along!"
This is why its pivotal to study the Mode of Production we live under in its totality. This is why i cringe severely whenever socialists quote that idealist study that "5 companies make up 99% of Carbon Emissions" or whatever, as if there exist free floating, natural entities called "Companies" that can be dissected & can have their "footprint" quantitatively attributed.
In Actual Reality, companies are outgrowths - theyre the mushrooming fruit that arise out of complex networks of underlying relations. If one company didnt do smth profitable, some other one would - as long as that nutrition (Potential Profitability) exists.
Everything around us is molded by Capital, but it presents itself as Natural & Intrinsic. This is what Marx meant by Fetishization - that the taste of your Tomatoes is the same whether the hands who grew them were freeman or slave. The motor that gets the tomato into your hands - the social relations of production & distribution - become invisible.
Only from there can the moralistic, individualistic idea of companies-acting-in-a-vacuum arise - because it only remains logically consistent If you dont recognize the invisible force that moves it (Gravity can never effect a single perfect sphere in a vacuum - so if thats your base assumption of reality, you're going to treat whatever your sphere does as an attribute of the sphere, instead of something whacky like the fabric of spacetime)
