May Day 2020 General Strike

I’m a web developer who’s still working (remotely), and a parent of young children. Idk what role I would have in a strike, but maybe y'all will find this useful.

You have the most important and straightforward role in the strike: you strike. Don’t work. Don’t pay rent. Spend time with your kids. Get involved with mutual aid in your area

please click the link

it will help you put actual weight to this, knowing there are specific people around you with specific needs, asking for help, and that you may be able to provide

i found a trans shelter near me listed there that has a google sheets doc up and running where you fill out a survey of what you need and others respond with how they can/have helped

it makes it finally feel real to know that there IS direct action you can take. it gets rid of that “yeah corporations suck but what am -i- able to do about it” fog

my head started to spin reading through it because of how much weight suddenly fell on my thoughts and i am glad that happened

i am relatively well-off but also in a precarious health situation already and without any kind of nearby friend/family support so i both do not need anything but do not know if i really have much excess energy or resources i can give to help, i do not know my own capacities and have been at the edge of falling for so long that i cannot confidently participate

please check your location at that link and help those near you in my place

in the future when ive been able to build a solid foundation with others (been genuinely working on it for a while! i’m very young and a runaway from abuse with health issues, so i do not expect myself to have much to give at this point. i am in the process of building my found family, starting with moving to be with new loved ones i am currently long distance from), and i promise to you when i have the solid stability to do so, i WILL contribute whatever i can to whatever mutual aid is around me when that time comes

but if you are better off than i am, PLEASE ACT NOW. this is your chance to help others

we can do this together
