Vietnam has a capitalist economy since the late 80s.

while vietnam has indeed applied significant market-based reforms since the late 80′s, the economy there still maintains significant socialist elements- Vietnam describes themselves as a “socialist-oriented market economy”- and those socialist elements are key to why Vietnam has been able to effectively keep people fed during the crisis.

while there are certainly criticisms to be made of the capitalist road which Vietnam has unfortunately gone down, they’re still significantly more socialist than, say, so-called nordic “socialism”
