On this day, 19 July 1921, the first official action of the anti-fascist militia, the Arditi del Popolo, took place in Piombino, Italy. A fascist meeting place was attacked and the fascists inside rounded up. When the Royal Guard tried to intervene, they too were forced to surrender with the AdP holding the streets for several days before the sheer size of police numbers forced them to withdraw.
