On this day, 26 February 2012, Trayvon Martin, an unarmed black teenager, was murdered by a neighborhood watch volunteer for being black, wearing a hoodie, and being in the “wrong” neighbourhood. In the aftermath of his death, there were marches and protests across the USA, and Black Lives Matter was born. Over a year after, however, his shooter went on trial and was acquitted of his charges of murder.
