Villagers just outside the city of Nanchang, Jiangxi, erected their own blockade with a sign that says, "Outside people and cars forbidden from entering."

Health and transportation authorities have set up makeshift roadblocks where drivers and passengers have their temperature taken before entering Jiujiang.

Streets were empty at 8 p.m. on Monday in a village in Jiangxi province even before an unofficial quarantine.
