“The Monster of Frankenstein” (1981)
Toei’s second adaptation of a Marvel comics title. Although Marvel’s comic was a fairly faithful graphic adaptation and continuation of Mary Shelley’s novel, complete with an intelligent, articulate creature. But like with “Dracula, Sovereign of the Damned”, Toei paid a lot of money for a character in the public domain. It takes no cues from the comic or the source novel and is just a vapid, flippant rehash of the Universal Films version of the story.
They try to portray the monster as sympathetic in the dialogue but after it comes to life all it does is make noise and kill people. It also partially eats one. And every second the monster is on screen it is making a noises. Grunts, groans and attempts at broken speech.
