Edgar Allan Poe, the master of mystery, was born January 19, 1809. One of America’s most influential writers, Poe’s stories and poems - works like “The Tell-Tale Heart” and The Raven” - continue to entertain readers over two hundred years after his birth. Poe is heralded as the inventor of the detective story with his tales of master sleuth C. Auguste Dupin, a character who influenced the genesis of Sherlock Holmes, Hercule Poirot, and many more of literature’s classic detectives.

Poe’s works (as well as his life story) have been fodder for so many adaptations over the years, and many of his tales were presented on the air during the Golden Age of Radio.
