On this day, 29 December 1890, near Wounded Knee Creek in South Dakota, US troops in the 7th cavalry regiment massacred over 200 Lakota men, women and children, many of them unarmed and fleeing, as well as some of their own colleagues.
For these “brave” deeds over 20 servicemen were awarded the Medal of Honour.
