On this day, 22 September 1978, Ford workers in the UK sparked the “winter of discontent” when 15,000 of them walked out on wildcat strike against a Labour government-union agreed 5% pay cap. Within a few days they were joined by 57,000 more strikers, who stayed out until they won a 17% pay increase in November. Over a million other workers then followed their example! This is our short history of the strike wave: https://libcom.org/history/1978-1979-winter-of-discontent https://www.facebook.com/workingclasshistory/photos/a.296224173896073/1216595281858953/?type=3
