more political commentary that nobody asked for: don’t tell people from the uk who are upset about the election results that “it will be okay.” when trump won in 2016, people kept saying that, and… it wasn’t okay. it still isn’t okay. the policies and laws that these politicians enact have major effects on people’s lives. people die because of these policies. people lose healthcare, the economy is hurt and people lose their jobs and their homes, mental health is affected, not to mention the additional danger that poc, disabled people, muslims & jewish people, and lgbtq+ people (especially the trans/nb community) are put in… it is perfectly valid and understandable and, honestly, expected, for people to be scared right now. to be anxious. i hope it’ll be okay, i genuinely hope that things won’t go as poorly for the uk as they have been for the us these past couple of years. but you are allowed to be afraid, you are allowed to be angry, and if you need to talk, please don’t hesitate to reach out to someone. i love you all.
#yes!!! #saying ‘we’ve survived conservative governments we’ll do it again’ is just not it #like no not everyone has survived it and also basic survival should not be our hope #uk politics #politics
These tags are so accurate (via @jakeperalta) . People died. There’s statistical evidence that people have died because of Tory Austerity. Food banks have increased. People are freezing on the streets. If anyone tells me one more time that “well at least it’s only Boris Johnson” they have no understanding of that man, his party and the life long consequences we will feel because of this.
austerity is directly responsible for 120,000 preventable deaths since 2012
Yes.
When I was in Cornwall I got teased about Trump being our leader quite a few times as if it were a lighthearted joke. I’m seeing jokes now about this election like “now England can’t act better than us.”
It astounds me that so many people, when faced with something with such dire consequences, will grasp at the straws of feeling slightly Superior to other people in the same boat.
Marginalized people the world over are under threat. These are dire times. We need solidarity. We need to listen to the experiences of the people in our countries and the experiences of the people in other countries and focus on doing something about it. Not be smug that the UK is what? “As bad as us now” or whatever people are spewing.
People are suffering, and people are dying. This isn’t the time for a pissing match.
