October 9 2014 - “Loukanikos” (meaning sausage), internationally known as the “Riot Dog” passed away in his sleep today in Athens at the age of 10. Loukanikos was a stray living in Syntagma square who would regularly join riots there, and always on the side of the protesters. His health was adversely affected by police tear gas and from being kicked by policemen in various riots, forcing him to “retire” from active protest about two years ago when a protester adopted him.

“He was on the couch sleeping, when suddenly his heart stopped beating”.
