On this day, 6 December 1918, Black soldiers in the British West Indies Regiment stationed in Taranto, Italy, mutinied and attacked their officers against appalling and racist treatment. Though violently repressed, many mutineers later returned home to the Caribbean and joined worker and anti-colonial unrest.
