Due to an underwater volcanic eruption, a massive raft of pumice (around the size of Manhattan) is currently floating in the middle of the ocean. It’s expected to read Australia in the next 7-10 months.
This could be good news for the Great Barrier Reef, because events like this can spread sea life from one place to another. Porous stones like pumice can carry crabs, microorganisms, and even young coral, which could re-seed parts of the reef and introduce new genetics.
