Relief of Nubian Prisoners of War

Detail of a carving at Abu Simbel temple which built as a lasting monument to Ramesses II and his wife Queen Nefertari and to commemorate his victory at the battle of Kadesh.

The construction of the Abu Simbel temples compound there was meant to demonstrate the power and eternal supremacy of Egypt with respect to the tributary Nubia. It served as a reminder to the Nubian neighbors of the prowess of the Pharaoh.
