
On this day, 23 March 1931, Indian revolutionary socialist Bhagat Singh was executed by the British, aged 23. While he opposed British colonialism, rather than narrow nationalism Singh advocated working class revolution against both British and Indian capitalists. Upon his death he became a national hero.
