Teargas is most often either based on the active ingredient of chili peppers, or an acid…sometimes both.

It will cause skin damage, even worse for the eyes, mucous membrans, and if you have already breathing problems it can be deadly.

Getting close enough to throw a canister back or drown it, will cause more damage simply because you are in the direct area of effect.

Swimming googles are important to protect the eyes, breathing masks are not 100% safe but reduce damage, and long gloves and sleeves helps to protect the skin.

Thick fabric works better. sleeves pulled firm around ankles and wrists keeps it from getting into your clothing as easily.

Antihistamins help with itching and tearing up and similiar reactions.
If you have allergies, teargas will have a worse effect on you.
Bottles of water with dissolved baking soda(1% solution) help to neutralize acids.

Milk, full fat, is the beverage of choice to wash eyes and skin bcs it neutralizes acids and also helps to wash off the hot chilli effect which is fat soluble.

So when you strip down, double bag them, and use gloves to put them in the washer.

When you can shower, take care when lathering up, that the suds don’t wash in your eyes or other sensitive spaces.

If you use petroleum jelly to protect your skin, washing it off afterwards is important bcs it might help you at first, but also traps the particles and will release them later.
