August/September 2019 - Tens of thousands of people throughout West Papua and in Indonesia took to the streets to demand freedom for West Papua, which is occupied by Indonesia. Indonesian police murdered several protesters, after which the protests became more violent, with protesters burning down government buildings of the occupying Indonesian forces.

The protests were triggered by an assault of Indonesian police, working together with right-wing militias, on a campus of Papuan students in Surabaya, Java, after a damaged Indonesian flag was found. Almost 50 students were arrested, beaten and had racial abuse hurled at them by the police. [video]/[video]/[video]/[video]/[video]
