December 5, 2004No new material, but we changed the order around in an attempt to shake off the vibes from last night. I think it’s the first time we didn’t do “Clean Getaway,” and Dan resurrected “Imitation of Christ” (rim shot!) for the first time since we were so rudely interrupted in May. We were supposed to go to a house party, but no one really felt like it with Skip all defensive.
January 19, 2005Happy new year! Happy anniversary, for that matter. Happy happy joy joy.
That’s not sarcasm either. After Christmas and the full moon, Skip and I really talked for the first time in years. I explained to him we like him, but this is a job, and he has to take it more seriously if he wants to stay on. He surprised me by wanting to come to practice and even write a song. Wags and I took him out for pizza, and it wound up a lot less awkward than anticipated.
I wrote a song that’s sort of about Skip, but it’s sort of about politics too. It’s called “Yellow Dog” since “Old Yeller” already was taken, ha ha. We played it tonight at Michael’s, along with a cover where Dan goes all psycho killer. It’s called “Talking to a Stranger,” and I can’t figure out what about it’s so scary, but Mark had everybody dancing to it. Even Skip! It goes on forever.
After that we sat around and had drinks. Awesome night.
