On this day, 22 September 1934, the US Union of Textile Workers ordered its striking members to return to work, despite the employers effectively conceding nothing. Over 420,000 workers had downed tools since July against an enforced reduction in hours, and 13 were killed by state repression in the South alone. This excellent book tells the story of the strike: https://shop.workingclasshistory.com/collections/books/products/strike-jeremy-brecher https://www.facebook.com/workingclasshistory/photos/a.296224173896073/1216803828504765/?type=3
