A Republican Tennessee lawmaker says he supports getting rid of higher education because he argues it would cut off the “liberal breeding ground.”

Sen. Kerry Roberts of Springfield called for eliminating higher education while speaking about attending a recent abortion legislative hearing on his conservative radio talk show on Sept. 2.

Roberts specifically called out one activist who testified in favor of protecting abortion rights. He asserted without evidence that the woman’s beliefs were a “product of higher education” and claimed that getting rid of higher education would “save America.” (x)

Hold on, hold on, hold on. This one’s not scary, this is hilarious. What the FUCK do we do without higher education? Where do we get our experts, or pass down knowledge? Really think about that. Without college graduates, who the fuck is going to find answers to the big questions? Questions like: What the fuck is space? What lives at the bottom of the ocean? How do you organize traffic lights at intersections to minimize traffic on the daily commute?

Now, absurdity aside, let’s really consider more practical applications of the idea… I know, bear with me.

Let’s actually get rid of HIGHER education. Let’s include it as a part of the basic education package. Granted, it’s not for everyone, but let’s say you are someone who would really like to further your education on astronomy, instead of institutionalizing it like we do today, why not build it into the educational upbringing of students from the get-go. Some people know what they would LOVE to do, and simply lose steam after 12 years of public school beat down, causing extra stress, anxiety, and suffering in their college experience. Integrate these higher courses in place of certain electives, or build the entire education system around the idea that by the time you’ve graduated high school, you will have at least one degree or technical certification.

Wouldn’t that be fantastic? Theres nothing conceptually complex about most entry level courses, and if you start early, and with smaller steps, you could accomplish a degree plan easily in addition to a course load of “basic” courses similar to those already in the high school curriculum, with reduced redundancy.

Or you know it’s actually scary esp. when coming from the right given that totalitarian governments literally close the universities during political upheaval and nothing Sen. Roberts implies anything you just said.
