On this day, 9 September 1917, towards the end of World War I, a significant mutiny of British troops broke out in Etaples, France. Protests began after the arrest of a gunner, then after military police killed a demonstrator over 1,000 soldiers chased them off the base, grabbed the commander from his chair and paraded him through the town. This is a short history of the rebellion: https://libcom.org/history/1917-the-etaples-mutiny
