A 60-year-old Ohio man who was waiting for hip replacement surgery was deported to his native Mauritania on Tuesday without the operation, according to his attorney.

Goura Ndiaye lived in Ohio for nearly 20 years, under supervision by Immigration and Customs Enforcement. He attended routine check-in meetings with ICE without issue until December 2018, when he was detained.

Ndiaye was deported Tuesday, sent back to a country where the UN says some darker-skinned people like him are enslaved. He also has limited mobility because of his necrotic hip, according to his attorney, Alexandria Lubans-Otto.

‘Our Government Has Issued Them A Death Sentence’: Immigration Officials End Medical Deferral Program

The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service (USCIS) is no longer considering most deferrals of deportation for people with serious medical conditions, documents show.

Denial letters received last week by Boston-area immigrants signaled the change in Department of Homeland Security regulations — though immigration advocates say they received no formal announcement from USCIS.

The small program known as “medical deferred action” allows people to remain in the U.S. for two-year periods if they can prove extreme medical need. Many of the people affected by the policy change came to the U.S. through a visa or other permitted status and are requesting to stay beyond those terms to receive medical treatment.

The Trump administration literally went out of their way to deport people with serious medical conditions - that will likely result in death exactly like Jimmy Aldaoud.
