about the race thing ... how much do we know about the genetics and diversity of ancient egypt? Are there modern day ethnic groups that they are similar to?

Anon? This is a joke, but why do you hate me?

We know a lot. A hell of a lot. People just refuse to believe that there are numerous things which factor into how the Egyptians look. I answered an ask on it here over a year ago, which you would find if you look in my FAQ. There isn’t a particular ethnic group the Egyptians are similar to because the civilisation, much like the Greek and Roman civilisations, are not ethnically or culturally homogenous and we have to stop thinking of them as distinct blocks.

And before anyone asks, Egyptian art is like that™ because of art decorum. Rules governed how someone could be presented in art or statuary. Women are depicted as pale yellow and men as dark brown because art decorum says so. There’s always a fishing/fowling/hunting scene in a tomb because art decorum says it must be there to demonstrate control over chaos according to Ma’at. I answer more about how accurate Egyptians are in depicting themselves in their art here, but I’ll leave with an image from the tomb of Ipuy where he breaks with decorum and depicts himself and his friends fishing on the Nile:
