Happy Birthday, Fright Night!
On this day in 1985, we were welcomed to Fright Night… for real! This toothy talkie paid homage to Hammer’s fang-bangers while simultaneously updating them for the Eldritch Eighties! It treated us to some of the creepiest (and yuppiest) vamps in Filmland and gave Roddy McDowall a career-best performance as Peter Vincent, the actor/ho-rror ho-st who’s thrust into a real-life conflict between the living and dead. Brilliant effects and ‘80s ambiance give an already-potent yelp-yarn extra bite, and the humor serves the ho-rror perfectly. Still one of the best monster movies of the 1980s, Fright Night is a night to remember. You’re so cool, Fright Night!
