On this day, 29 July 1921, Maria Occhipinti, Italian revolutionary, feminist and textile worker was born in Ragusa. In 1945 she sparked the anti-draft revolt in Ragusa, which temporarily liberated the town from Nazi occupation, and for which she was imprisoned.
