On this day, 27 July 1933 bus drivers in Havana went on strike, other drivers soon struck in sympathy. This was the start of the unrest that culminated in a general strike of Cuban workers and students which paralysed the nation and forced the brutal dictator Gerardo Machado from power, after a last minute deal with the Cuban Communist party failed to split the movement.
Today we are happy to make available a great book of the history of anarchism in the Cuban workers’ movement around this time period. Proceeds help fund our work: https://shop.workingclasshistory.com/products/anarchist-cuba-kirwin-shaffer https://www.facebook.com/workingclasshistory/photos/a.296224173896073/1175854882599660/?type=3
