On this day, 21 July 1972, five shop stewards were arrested and jailed by the National Industrial Relations Court for refusing to obey a court order to stop picketing a container depot in East London. Their arrest and imprisonment led to the Trades Union Congress calling a general strike. They were released five days later after mass protests and wildcat strikes. This is the story of the legislation that led to the jailing of the Pentonville Five: http://libcom.org/history/how-kill-act-parliament-jack-ray https://www.facebook.com/workingclasshistory/photos/a.296224173896073/1171508093034339/?type=3
