Not to be an extremely unfun killjoy about what is obviously a joke, but the central areas of Australia are populated, if not densely, and most of the people who live there are Aboriginal people. When people propagate the joke that the Australian desert is empty and uninhabitable it continues the project of terra nullius. So we should. maybe. not do it.
