スターウォーズシリーズや「ジュラシックパーク」などで知られるILMのデニス・ミューレンが学生時代に友人らと製作したモデルアニメーション映画を追撮、再編集し劇場公開した作品。物語は、男女四人の若者がピクニックに行った先で魔道書を見つけ、呪文を唱えた事により、魔界から邪神や魔獣、悪魔が出現するというホラーもの。
学生映画を買い取ったジャック・Ｈ・ハリスは、低予算映画のプロデューサーとして知られる。特撮には、ハリーハウゼンの弟子・ジム・ダンフォースもマット画で参加している。
