On this day exactly 150 years ago, 27 June 1869, Emma Goldman, the legendary Jewish writer, feminist, birth control advocate and anarchist was born in what is now Lithuania. Emigrating to the United States, she became the “most dangerous woman in America” according to FBI director J Edgar Hoover. And was arrested, fined and jailed multiple times, before eventually being deported because of her ideas and activism.
We have some items in our online store featuring Goldman to help fund our work, including the book Anarchy and the Sex Question – an excellent compilation of her writings on gender, sex and sexuality. Check them out here: https://shop.workingclasshistory.com/collections/all/emma-goldman https://www.facebook.com/workingclasshistory/photos/a.296224173896073/1155515291300286/?type=3
