You’ve probably never heard of this one but to all horror geeks and lovers of female characters and LGBT Representation, it’s worth the search. The story follows a captive mermaid who is about to be taken to America to be used for profit by a carnival side show. She eventually takes revenge on each and every one of them except for the heroine Lily Shaw, who she has developed an infatuation with and instead gifts the barren women with a child.
So one of the two leads is a vengeful lesbian mermaid who can take on the form of a human and a monstrous form in addition to the traditional mermaid form that takes violent revenge on her captors but shows fascination with the sole woman who shows her compassion and since she is able to impregnate females gifts her with the gift of fertility and spares her as a sort of ‘thank you’ while the other is a con artist who shows a conscience and intelligence and becomes fascinated with the mermaid in turn and shows her compassion as well as try to help her escape and keep her existence a secret. You know, for a made-for-TV feature, they really worked to make these characters worth being invested in.
Next Time: A horror lead who has to deal with an intruder in her house that she can’t even hear.
