A few things I’d like to point out. 

First thing, yes Disney has it in their contracts that whatever the artists create during their contractual agreements belongs to Disney. That’s why Disney has a vault full of R34 Disney characters as protest by their artists. 

Secondly, I understand OP likes both TLK and Kimba, but, consider this. Osamu Tezuka was a Disney fanboy. His absolute favorite was Bambi. He’s even gotten permission from Disney to translate it into manga form. 

Ex: 

He drew inspiration for Leo the White Lion from translating Bambi into manga form. You can clearly see Tommy’s roots in the second page. (In fact, Disney was in a copyright battle over Bambi and the author’s family of the novel back when it was in production, they’re no stranger to these situations)

And lastly, the concept of the lion being king of the jungle is as ancient as the British royal family. 

It’s okay to like both. I like both. Heck, I didn’t learn about Leo until the conspiracy reared its ugly head in the TLK fandom. And I spent ten years digging up information from various sources on the matter. Just don’t try to assume that one or the other invented time-tested tropes that were ‘ripped off’.
