Being anti vax should be considered child abuse

This happened in Lethbridge, Alberta. From the CBC coverage: “They treated him for 2½ weeks with remedies that included hot peppers, garlic, onions and horseradish and a product from a naturopathic doctor aimed at boosting his immune system”. The parents are now living in Nelson with their other children, and although it was a condition of their sentence that their other children get regular medical checkups there’s no indication that’s being currently reinforced.

Meanwhile, in Alberta, 59% of the children receiving intervention services (a fancy term for being apprehended or put in foster care or group homes) were Indigenous, and between May 2009 and May 2018, 223 children died receiving intervention services, an average of 25 per year. Piikani Child and Family Services, baser partially out of Lethbridge and the nearby reserve town of Brocket, specifically cites racism and colonialism and well as funding gaps between Indigenous and non Indigenous services to explain why so many are apprehended and die.
