On this day in 1958, Horror of Dracula spread its terror in the U.S. for the very first time! This is it: the absolute monarch of all vampire movies; the platonic ideal of the vampire movie! There have been Draculas before and since, but Christopher Lee out-spooks them all! Technicolor blood splatters the screen in a fashion previously unheard of! Peter Cushing and Chris Lee were promoted to Ho-rror royalty after this one, and Hammer became the Universal of the ‘50s/’60s. Absolute masterpiece.
