Coffinette for the Viscera of Tutankhamun
This exquisite coffinette, which contained the mummified liver of the King, depicts him as Osiris. The test on the lid invokes the protection of Imsery, one of the four sons of Horus, and Isis, the wife of Osiris. She also appears on the underside of the lid, and a spell from the Book of the Dead covers most of the remaining interior surfaces. One of four coffinettes found in Tutankhamun’s canopic chest, this one, like the others, was not originally made for him.
From the Tomb of Tutankhamun (KV62). Now in the Egyptian Museum, Cairo.
