On this day, 28 March 1939, the “Stanbrook” ship departed from Alicante carrying around 3500 refugees fleeing Spain following Franco’s victory in the civil war. Two of these passengers, numbers 764 and 1797 were Spanish anarchists who eventually settled in Australia.
