
On this day, 18 March 1974, students assembled near the Bihar state parliament in India in order to prevent a meeting. The police attacked and killed five protesters, who then responded by rioting. Government and press buildings were set on fire, as was the residence of the former education minister Ramanand Singh, and posh hotels, railway wagons and warehouses were looted.
