How did broadcast television cover climate change in 2018? Terribly.
Despite landmark climate reports, extreme weather, and new scientific research, climate coverage was down from 2017 at less than two and a half hours total. ABC’s coverage decreased the most, from 57 minutes in 2017 to less than 11 minutes in 2018. The people featured in climate coverage were mostly white men, and networks largely ignored the impact of climate change on national security.
Given the urgency of the climate crisis, networks have got to do better than this.
