Okay so since I’m in the midst of making a full kaiju compendium for D&D over on @probablyadrpgideas. I thought I’d share my thoughts on the different Godzilla designs! This is a very long post!

1954

The original King of the Monsters! A really good design for the time and just brings me back to when I first watched Godzilla 1954 as a kid. 10/10!

1955

This bad boy comes from Godzilla Raids Again! He’s a tad slimmer than his 1954 appearance and his head seems a bit longer than his 1954 incarnation. I give this design a solid 6/10! Keeps the classic design and doesn’t mix it up a whole lot!

1962

This design made its appearance in Godzilla vs King Kong! Seems to have a more greenish tint on the scales. I love its face, looks like he’s laughing at a good joke! I give this design a 7.5/10!

1964

The design for this Godzilla is pretty solid  I love the more pronounced bone-white color of the dorsal plates and the rows of them on its tail. I give this design an 8/10!

1967

This version is not the best I’ve seen. The face is just a tad off, but sticks to the central design. I rate it 5.5/10.

1973, 1974, and 1975

This design is really good! Stubby little toes! Keeps to the core Godzilla design but stands out! His face makes him look like a friend! I rate him a 9/10!

1984

This design was the first design in the Heisei series of films and really calls back to the earlier more menacing designs! Just look at the glare on that face! I give him a 8.5/10!

1989-1993

This design is the one that they stuck with through most of Heisei series of films and is one of my favorites due to the longevity of its design! The face keeps the menacing look from its 1984 design! I rate this Godzilla 9.5/10!

1999-2001

One of my favorite designs overall! A more saurian design and those colorful and spiky dorsal plates are a great addition! I give this design a 10/10!

2001

My favorite Godzilla design of all time! The dorsal plates look excellent and those eyes! So menacing! I give this design a 10/10!

2002-2003

This version of Godzilla returns to a more traditional look! It retains some of the dorsal plate designs as the 1999-2000 iteration. I rate this Godzilla 8/10!

2004

This version appeared in the film Godzilla: Final Wars. It looks formidable and really turns up what key features that make Godzilla, Godzilla! The ears are more prominent as well! I love it! 10/10!

2014

This design is an excellent one and is the one that is currently used in the Legendary Godzilla films! He looks very large and bulky and the dorsal plates look excellent for a more realistic take on the King of the Monsters! 9.5/10!

2016

Shin Godzilla is hands down one of the most terrifying designs used for Godzilla! The dead eyes, the teeth, the tail, the skin! All lend themselves to creating a truly horrifying beast! 8.5/10!

2017-2019

The Godzilla from the anime trilogy is the largest iteration to date! Standing at a whopping 300 meters or 984 feet tall! This design has a plant motif to it and the dorsal plates are meant to resemble leaves on a tree! The skin also reflects this with its bark-like appearance! 8/10!
