The Loafers of Refuge by Joseph L. Green, cover by Bob Abbett (1965)
Bob Abbett painted many covers in the 1960s and 1970s, most notably the covers of the Ballantine Books reprints of the Tarzan and John Carter stories, before leaving commercial art to become a wildlife painter.
The pencil and watercolour original of Bob Abbett’s cover was auctioned just a few years ago.
