The Kappa is one of Japan’s most famous cryptids. It is described as a childlike river imp with thin arms and legs, always leaving a trail of slime behind wherever it goes. The depiction of this strange little being has changed over the years and they are sometimes described as having a turtle shell. They are held responsible for the drownings of children. Strangely enough, they are sometimes considered benevolent and aid people in danger. On the flip side there are also legends of the Kappa raping bathing women. Kappa even kill victims for their livers and shirikodama - a magical ball located in the anus. Kappa must retrieve the shirikodama from the victim before the person dies or it devours the liver.
