𓋹 The Great Temple of Abu Simbel stands 30m. high & 35m. wide with four seated statues, depicting Ramses II on his throne, completed after 20 years in 1265 BC.

During an earthquake in 27 BC, the torso of statue 2 collapsed and still lies in the sand.

The interior of the temple is decorated with the battle at Kadesh & Ramses and Nefertari paying homage to the gods.

The hypostyle hall is flanked by 8 Osiris pillars in two rows, wearing the features of Ramses II.

65m. from the entrance, is the sanctuary. In this chamber are 4 statues, the great Ramses II together with the triad of: Ptah, Amon-Ra & Ra-Harakhti. Twice a year the rising sun penetrates the heart of the temple and illuminates 3 statues. Remarkably Ptah is never struck by the sun’s rays. Because Ptah is the god of darkness & death. This has to become known as “the miracle of the sun”.
