Photo by @staceyfarrellphotography When a nervous mother hippo decided to return her five-day-old calf back to the pond, a tragedy unfolded on the banks of the St Lucia Estuary in Kwazulu-Natal’s #iSimangaliso #Wetland Park. What started out as curious behaviour in the pond turned violent as this young male (pictured) snatched the baby. Sadly, it was no match for the male. The calf died two hours later after being attacked a second time. #nature #wildlife #hippo #pond
