Blu-ray Review: Luther the Geek
Before the word “geek” was a slang term for nerdy types who read comics and do well in school, it was used to describe carnival sideshow freaks that bit the heads off live chickens and drank their blood in front of a live audience. It is that definition of the word to which the title of the little-seen horror film Luther the Geek refers.
Luther the Geek’s obscure status is not a reflection of its quality, but rather a poor distribution deal. Shady dealings by the folks at the short-lived Quest Entertainment resulted in the film being dumped on VHS with no promotion. Writer-director Carlton J. Albright (who blasts “those miserable bastards” on the disc’s introduction) was forced to file a lawsuit in order to obtain the rights.
