“Monsters/Монстры” (1993)
Russia’s first giant monster movie.
After an accident at a nuclear plant, radiation causes animals to grow to great size. Including giant rats, crows, snakes, crayfish and a giant turtle that is not a friend to all children.
Low budget with special effects similar to those used in the 1976 film version of “Food of the Gods”, but it was made with the cooperation of the Russian Armed Forces, featuring lots of real troops, jets, helicopters and tanks and APCs.
Not a classic by any stretch but it has the novelty of being the first film from Russia to feature giant monsters.
