SHE DIED BECAUSE OF A MISFIRE THAT MAY NOT HAVE ACTUALLY BEEN A MISFIRE.
The actual target was the building behind her home. Two missiles of 24 missed, striking her home, killing her, her husband, and their housekeeper, and blinding their daughter.
This by itself would be tragic and inexcusable. But it goes a step further:
Her house was previously destroyed in American bombings in 1991. In protest, she used pieces of it to make a mosaic on the floor of the al-Rashid Hotel in Baghdad. The mosaic was of George H.W. Bush (who would have ordered those bombings), and the intention was that nobody would be able to enter the hotel without stepping on his face, which is a massive insult in Iraq. (Anybody else remember the hero who threw his shoes at Bush II?) It was a piece of protest art. Something supposedly protected and enshrined in American values and law.
And there are rumors that the “misfire” was deliberate, and was retaliation for the mosaic.
George W. Bush, H.W.’s son, ordered the mosaic removed when American troops captured Baghdad in 2003.

according to the article, there seem to be two possibilities regarding Nazarro’s identity and purpose: 1. that he is a federal agent embedded in the white supremacist movement in order to “entrap” neo-nazis (this seems to be an opinion mostly propagated and shared by neo-nazis and white supremacists themselves, who suspect him of being an infiltrator) 2. he is actually a white supremacist who lives in russia and operates in the u.s. with the purpose of creating a white ethnostate in the Pacific Northwest.
i mean, the difference may be absolutely negligible in the long run, but i believe that it’s every community’s right and duty to be as well-informed about these terrorists as possible. the more important takeaway from this article is not “oh it’s the feds” but rather, here is an actual, physical, and for some of us, local threat to our communities – what can we do about it?
“White Tiger“ is a war movie, directed by Karen Shakhnazarov in 2012. It’s based on a novel by Ilya Boyashov “The Tank Crewman“, but I wouldn’t call it a proper adaptation, because a lot of things got changed or were accented in a different manner.
The main plotline remains the same, though: a badly burnt body of a man is found in a destroyed tank after a battle. To the surprise of everyone the man seems to show some signs of life, so he’s brought to a hospital where - once again, to the surprise and some horror of everyone - he recovers from the majority of damage in mere three weks and is able to go back to the battlefield as a tank operator.
The man is amnesiac, the only things he remembers are his tank fixing and navigation skills, and the fact that back then he was burnt by the White Tiger, a mysterious German tank who is rumoured to be appearing out of nowhere, destroying dozens of Soviet engines and disappearing without leaving a trace.
So the man, renamed Ivan Naydyonov, keeps searching for the White Tiger, while around them the Second World war is happening.
There may very well be a supernatural element to Naydyonov and White Tiger’s beings, but most of other characters prefer not to think about it too much.
