A federal appeals court has decided to block the Trump administration’s “Remain in Mexico” plan in two states along the U.S. border, following back-and-forth rulings over the program.

In its order late Wednesday, the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco said that next week the administration will have to stop making asylum-seekers wait in Mexico for the U.S. to process their claims, but that the court ban applies only to areas in its jurisdiction, Arizona and California.

Solarpunk Action Week is less than a month away now! Is everyone ready???

Make sure to spread the word! It’s happening March 8th through 14th!

Starting seeds, and have ordered a steel garden shed we’re going to put together if weather is nice! Part of the shed is going to be set up for chickens, so that I can supply myself with eggs and composted manure for the garden, and also donate extra eggs to the local food banks!

If the weather is nice enough, will get a start on cleaning up the garden for spring, and check on the bees to see how they’re doing. They’ve been out in the nicer weather doing cleansing flights and drinking from the bee feeder, so I know they came through the winter okay.

Oh. And, of course, chickens mean that I can set up a japanese beetle trap to funnel beetles that would normally eat my grapes and raspberries directly into hungry chicken faces.

Definitely gonna need the plans for that beetle trap.

Basing it on this one this absolute genius made!

Truth can never be at odds with truth.

solarpunk action week plans

friskdreemurr:

hey! so for solarpunk action week (starting march 8th!), I don’t actually have time to do much because I work 2 jobs and have writing deadlines. I figured I could use the time I do have to plan future solarpunk stuff and make small changes to my life that add up over time. so here we go!

i want to start by cooking my own food & eating out less; because I work two jobs and have a commute of up to 2 hours (when I stay at my parent’s house), I often don’t have time for this, as well as not actually having a space of my own to store food (when I’m crashing on my friend’s couch). but I thought over it, and I think I can manage to store some canned food at my friend’s place, and maybe have some fridge space? I’ll have to check with them but if not, canned food will work.

related to this, my parent’s house has a vegetable garden that I really want to be involved in this year. I’m going to start some plants in self-watering containers made from old soda bottles, and check in with my mom to see if she’s willing to take care of them while I’m gone (I only stay at my parent’s house one or two nights a week). I Might also ask about setting up a vertical garden where I’m staying, but that’s reliant on my friend’s shitty abusive parents and also it might make moving out Away from my friend’s shitty abusive parents more difficult. I like the looks of this one, though!

I also want to set up a free store! this is a bit of a big thing, though. I don’t have a good location, but I saw some ppl do a free store on a cart, and one of my jobs sells huge rolling tubs that I could make work if I don’t have time to DIY it.

lastly, I want to collect leftist & solarpunk writing & resources to bind into zines and hand out to people, maybe as part of the free store? I dabble in bookbinding, even if I’m not very good at it yet, and this would be a good way to practice my craft & spread leftist ideas.

that’s all! thanks for reading!

workingclasshistory:

On this day, 12 July 1979, Olive Morris, feminist, squatter and activist in the Brixton Black Panthers, died aged just 27. Born in Jamaica, Morris moved to the UK aged 9 to be with her forklift operator father and factory shop steward mother. One of her earliest political actions was at 17 when she intervened when police in Brixton, south London, were arresting a black man for an alleged parking offence. She was racially abused and physically attacked by officers, then arrested, fined and given a three month suspended sentence for two years. In her short life she played a leading role in radical movements in Britain, getting involved with and helping found numerous groups and projects like the Black Women’s Mutual Aid Group. She also was critical of the white left and union movement, which spoke about “unity” but in practice at employers like Standard Telephones and Cables defended practices like lower pay for black workers, and scabbed on black workers’ strikes. About single issue anti-fascist groups, Morris said “Not a single problem associated with racialism, unemployment, police violence and homelessness can be settled by ‘rocking’ against the fascists, the police or the army… The fight against racism and fascism is completely bound up with the fight to overthrow capitalism, the system that breeds both.” In 1978 Olive Morris became unwell, and was then diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. She succumbed the following year.
