Radio Blue Heart is on the air!
You’re incredible, punks!!!

solarpunkactionweek:

This Solarpunk Action Week exploded, outnumbering last year’s by at least a factor of ten! I never imagined it’d get this big - I suppose it’s all thanks to @poblacht-na-n-oibrithe‘s knack for spreading information, being a professional meme queen

The actions I’ve seen this week have been fantastic! Tons of people getting food planted, learning new skills, building things, reducing waste, spreading information, taking direct action, and getting organized. I’m unbelievably proud of and inspired by every single one of you. And there have been several people saying they’re going to carry the momentum of last week through for another week, month, or even season of solarpunk activism - that’s outstanding!!! I can’t wait to see what you all accomplish!

If you want to keep up with/support the mods between Action Weeks, here’s our info:

Pops: Mastodon, tumblr (resources tag), ko-fi

Natalie: Mastodon, tumblr (resources tag), cashapp $NatalieIronside

Now, y’all have homework

The next Action Week will be happening around 6 months from now (exact dates TBA), to correspond with planting season in the southern hemisphere. Those of you in the northern hemisphere are still encouraged to participate - we’ll have lots of info on how to collect and preserve your harvests, start winter crops, and preserve your soil between growing seasons, as well as tons of non-plant-related actions

Your mission from now until then is to organize. I want to see you show up for the next Action Week with a crew, ready to get stuff done together! Individualistic skillbuilding is great, but we can’t change the world working alone - we need to strengthen our communities!

A great place to start right now is with local COVID-19 response mutual aid networks. There are already hundreds of groups like that popping up all over the world, plus plenty of resources to start your own if there’s not already one in your area. This is vital work, the kind of stuff the state can’t or won’t do - we need all hands on deck to get these networks running and help them build into something even greater when we come out the other side

If that’s not enough for you, though, here’s a list of great initiatives to get involved with (just to get you started):

If you’re on Turtle Island/so-called North America, check these out too:

Can’t find anything at all? Start something yourself!

Now get going! I want to see group efforts and big events next time! Keep that momentum strong! ✊💕

horses are inherently funny because they come in so many sizes. like draft horses

image

this looks so fake. this horses skull is bigger than the dudes entire torso. this horses NECK is thicker than the dudes entire BODY.

and then at the opposite end of the spectrum you have shit like this shetland pony which ALSO looks fake

image

what the hell happened to this thing who bred this line of ponies to be so ridiculous

fun fact, while most mini horses and ponies look fat, like the shetland above, some are genuinely just scaled down versions of regular horses

image

you look at this and think “wow that’s a horse i bet I could ride that” but you’d be wrong because this is an american shetty and it’s the size of a large dog

image

also fun fact, this is the world’s smallest horse, thumbelina

image

and this is the largest horse ever, brooklyn supreme

When the US entered the nuclear age, it did so recklessly. New research suggests that the hidden cost of developing nuclear weapons were far larger than previous estimates, with radioactive fallout responsible for 340,000 to 690,000 American deaths from 1951 to 1973.

On this day, 27 March 1943, gay anti-fascist resistance fighter Willem Arondeus led a group in bombing the Amsterdam Public Records Office which the Nazis had used to identify Dutch Jews, and which they could use to verify papers, which the resistance were forging. Thousands of files were destroyed.
Within a week, Arondeus (pictured, right) and the other members of the group were arrested. One of the group, Frieda Belinfante, a musician and lesbian, managed to evade capture.
Twelve, including Arondeus, were executed that July by firing squad.
In his last message before his execution, Arondeus said, “Let it be known that homosexuals are not cowards.”

You had me at Bear Cat (sound on)

I’ve held a binturong many times, and yes, they do frequently accidentally strangle their handlers. They’re also little chaos demons who can, and will, use all of their intelligence and willpower to make your life as difficult as possible, and get great joy out of doing so. They have the personality of a raccoon with an increased physical ability for mischief making due to their claws and tail.

Also they smell like oddly musty popcorn and will make you smell like oddly musty popcorn for the rest of the day.

If you can’t have the sound on, for whatever reason, it’s just the guy talking about binturongs; but the most relevant bit is “they have a very strong prehensile tail, so they can use those to grab tree branches, or choke their handler”.
